Cal/OSHA Asbestos Awareness
Online Training Certification Course
Title 8 CCR, Section 1529, 5208, 8358
From the highest rated and most trusted online training company - since 2008.
There is no safe exposure level for any type of asbestos fiber. Because asbestos fibers are microscopic, most people don't know they have been exposed to asbestos until decades later, and by then, the damage has already been done. This online training course presents an overview of important asbestos safety information and regulations in the state of California.
For decades, asbestos was commonly used in construction and other commercial industries due to its resistance to heat, chemicals, and corrosion. Today, asbestos is a recognized health hazard, and asbestos-containing products are no longer sold. The material is still found in many products and buildings, which is why OSHA asbestos regulations require asbestos awareness training.
This course is for:
Employees who are exposed to or at risk of exposure to toxic substances such as asbestos must receive appropriate safety training. Possible exposure can occur during inspections, sample collections, air monitoring, or performing any abatement or supervision of site work. Anyone who works in or around areas that may contain asbestos will benefit from this asbestos awareness training online course.
Case Study: A man worked for a manufacturing company when he was fifteen years old. Two years later, he took a job as an electrician's apprentice. The man worked there for the rest of his life. Part of his job included cutting sheets with a saw and drilling into the ACM. He had no idea how dangerous working with asbestos was, and he and his coworkers did not use masks or any other PPE. The man died of asbestos-related disease just before his retirement.
Key Takeaways: This man, like so many others in his industry, did not know the dangers of working with and around asbestos. Seemingly simple and harmless tasks cost the man his life. It is important for employees to understand the types of material they are working with on any job site. The proper PPE could have saved this man's life.

Governing Regulations
California's Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), more commonly known as Cal/OSHA, sets and enforces standards pertaining to asbestos in construction, shipyard/maritime, and general industry. These regulations are broken out by industry and can be found in Title 8 of the California Code of Regulations (CCR). Within Title 8, Section 1529 addresses asbestos in construction, Section 8358 addresses asbestos encountered in shipyards and maritime activities, and Section 5208 addresses all general industry standards regarding asbestos.
