Hazardous energy can come in many forms, including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, thermal, and others. There are plenty of energy sources in machines and equipment that can harm people. Some energy sources are obvious, such as electricityor heat in a furnace. Other energy sources may be less obvious, such as air pressure in a system or a tightly wound spring. When working with machines and equipment, the unexpected startup or release of stored energy can result in serious injury or death to workers. This is why learning how to control hazardous energy is so important.
