Industrial Laser Safety Officer
Online Training Certification Course
From the highest rated and most trusted online training company - since 2008.
Lasers are a powerful industrial tool used in numerous applications, including cutting, welding, drilling, bonding, surveying, and more. Because lasers produce high-intensity light beams that can cause workplace accidents and injuries, an industrial laser safety officer is required for work with high-powered lasers. The laser safety office (LSO) ensures that safety regulations and safe work practices are followed by all other workers.
This laser safety certification course provides an overview of a laser safety officer's duties and responsibilities for using lasers in an industrial setting. Course topics include basic concepts, applicable regulations, and industry standards for the use of lasers in the workplace. Industrial laser safety officer training highlights different types of lasers and their hazards, as well as the hazard control measures to employ when operating or working near a laser.
This course is for:
This laser safety course is designed for anyone who works in industries that operate high-powered lasers. Such industries are required to appoint a laser safety officer (LSO) to ensure that safety regulations and safe work practices are followed by all employees. This safety training may help prevent serious injury in the workplace and save lives. This online certification course meets the requirements set forth by OSHA, ANSI, CDRH, IEC, and NFPA for laser safety training.
Case Study: A laser operator at a manufacturing site reported an electrical output problem with the laser he was using to the maintenance supervisor. Upon arrival at the worksite, the supervisor told the operator to cease use of the laser, but not to turn off the equipment, because he felt the problem would be apparent when the high-voltage control cabinet was opened. The workers had received specific training from the manufacturer in how to open the control cabinet, but failed to follow the necessary de-energizing procedures.
When the supervisor touched one of the conductors within the high-voltage cabinet with a screwdriver, he was electrocuted. Emergency rescue workers were unable to revive him.

Governing Regulations
The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 created the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). OSHA, an agency of the U.S. Department of Labor, is charged with the enforcement of safety and health conditions of workers through the use of regulations published in the Code of Federal Regulations. OSHA regulations are published in Title 29 of the Code of Federal Regulations. Part 1910 covers general industry regulations, while 1926 is designated for construction industry standards.
Different agencies have issued safety recommendations and regulations for the use of lasers in the workplace. This online training course is based on regulations outlined in OSHA, ANSI Z136, CDRH Federal Laser Product Performance Standard (FLPPS), IEC 60825-1, NFPA Code 115: Laser Fire Protection, and NFPA Code 70: National Electrical Code. When OSHA issues safety citations involving laser incidents, the General Duty Clause is usually invoked, which requires employers to revise their workplace to fall in line with the ANSI Z136 standard.

Angela S
Industrial Laser Safety OfficerI liked this training. It allows the ability to start and stop throughout my work day. This software saves my progress. As I am new to this training, there were multiple times I needed to google a term to understand the training material. Interlocks were first introduced early in the course and then later on in the course definitions of interlocks and pictures were provided. I needed to first research what an interlock is and how it works. It would be great to have the introductory material on this first. It would be great if there were slides on examples of what an unenclosed versus enclosed laser system looks like as well as a video on how interlocks and panic buttons work.
Henry B
Industrial Laser Safety OfficerIt has been educational to me on this topic.

Industrial Laser Safety OfficerThis was a great course and I learned a great deal about lasers in our everyday world as well as a great deal of respect for them as well as in the industrial world.
Joe C
Industrial Laser Safety OfficerThe course was good and packed is a lot of information. I think it could be improved by adding more questions to the non-scored self-checks in each area and asking non-scored questions and providing advice about the case studies root causes/lessons learned, etc. I think some simple direction and examples of calculations done to determine NHZs would also be helpful.
Michael B
Industrial Laser Safety OfficerA lot of information to absorb, but very good in the sense of looking at incoming systems.
