IATA DGR Ramp & Warehouse
General Familiarization & Function Specific
Online Training Certification Course
From the highest rated and most trusted online training company - since 2008.
Ramp and warehouse personnel may come in contact with dangerous goods while handling cargo and baggage on the airport tarmac or in the air freight warehouse. It is important that they are aware of potential hazards and safe handling procedures. This IATA loading training will cover basic concepts which include an overview of dangerous goods regulations as well as the proper methods to safely identify, package, mark, label, document, and handle each class of dangerous goods.
Anyone who works in warehouses or on loading ramps must be aware of the potential hazards associated with dangerous goods. This online training course is designed for workers who handle and transport dangerous cargo by air. It emphasizes important safety procedures, knowledge, and skills needed to meet IATA ramp loading and IATA warehouse personnel training standards.
This course is for:
According to the IATA DGR Section 1.5.0.2, personnel identified in the categories specified in Tables 1.5 A or 1.5 B must take part in or provide verification of safety training prior to performing any duties specified in Tables 1.5 A or 1.5 B.Personnel in Categories 5 and 8 as outlined in Section 1.5.2.2 include staff employed by or working on behalf of freight forwarders, operators, and ground handling agents involved in the handling, storage, or loading of dangerous goods.
Case Study: The FAA proposed a civil penalty against British Airways in the amount of $195k. In August of 2014, British Airways allegedly offered for shipment a box containing a chemical oxygen generator to American Airlines for stateside repair without properly declaring it. The shipment was not properly classed, described, packaged, marked, or labeled. Hazardous materials regulations classify oxygen generators as FORBIDDEN aboard passenger aircraft due to their extreme flammability. British Airways also failed to adequately train its employees for shipping hazardous materials.
Key Takeaway: Even a single mishandled hazardous materials shipment can have severe consequences. Oxygen generators were banned as cargo on passenger flights following the 1996 ValuJet plane crash that killed everyone onboard. British Airways paid a hefty civil penalty for its failure to properly train its employees for shipping hazardous materials.
