Regulators such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) emphasize the importance of providing first aid training to employees, especially in remote work areas. Stabilizing victims on site before moving them can lead to better patient outcomes.

Case Study: In October of 2011, a coworker noticed a new employee was taking a break from their laborious work and did not look well. The victim's symptoms progressed and after a significant delay, he received medical treatment. The victim died shortly after EMS began treatment. The cause of death was determined to be heat exhaustion - an easily preventable and treatable condition if employees are properly trained to recognize symptoms in coworkers. No other workers were trained in first aid or CPR.

Governing Regulations
OSHA defines the general first aid requirements for all industries in 29 CFR 1910.151. Construction-specific requirements are listed in 29 CFR 1926.50.
Additionally, MSHA first aid requirements are codified by mine type in 30 CFR 56.18010 (surface mines), 57.18010 (underground mines), 75.1713 (underground coal mines), and 77.1703-1706 (surface coal mines).

Most of our courses take about two (2) hours to complete. If a final exam is included, you should plan for an additional 30 minutes. Courses that require additional training time will clearly state that in the course title or description.
You’ll have unlimited access during your enrollment or access period. Most CTO courses must be completed within 90 days of purchase. OSHA-authorized Outreach Training provides up to 180 days to finish the course and required survey. Timeframes vary depending on the specific course and regulatory requirements. MSHA requires miners who work under Part 46 and Part 48 to receive annual retraining. This online training course meets these requirements.
OSHA does not prescribe a retraining schedule. However, the general duty clause in 29 U.S. Code 654 requires every employer to "furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm." Periodic first aid training reduces the risk of fatal injury.
