Canada - Fall Protection
Online Training Certificate Course
OHS Safety Standards
From the highest rated and most trusted online training company - since 2008.
This course is offered in partnership with Hard Hat Training, a 360training™ company.
This fall protection certification course describes numerous methods of fall prevention and protection, including best practices for their use. Topics include fall distance calculation, applicable regulations, risk identification, hazard control, emergency action plan steps, and the equipment associated with fall prevention and protection systems.
Working at elevated heights presents a severe risk of falling. Falls from as little as 3 meters can cause serious injuries, and many construction work falls result from issues such as a lack of hazard identification, inadequate safety training, and insufficient application of proper risk control measures.
This course is in partnership with Hard Hat Training. Hard Hat Training and Compliance Training Online™ are divisions of the 360training™.
This course is for:
Anyone who works from heights must receive OHS fall protection training. This online training course meets the requirements set forth by Canada OHS Safety Standards, as well as Province and Territory specific regulations, for fall protection safety training.
Case Study: A construction worker was killed when he fell approximately 12 feet (3.7 meters) through a skylight onto concrete below. The worker was removing roofing materials from a florist shop when he reportedly lost his balance and fell backwards through one of six unguarded skylights. Employees inside the florist shop immediately contacted emergency services, and the worker was rushed to the hospital. He died the next day due to injuries sustained during the fall. It was later discovered that none of the workers on site had received fall protection training and no fall protection equipment was provided. The accident investigators attributed the accident to site management's failure to conduct a site inspection to identify hazards, as well as failure to manage risks prior to beginning work.

Governing Regulations
There are 14 jurisdictions in Canada - 1 federal, 10 provincial, and 3 territorial. Each jurisdiction has its own health and safety legislation. The Canada Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Regulations are the federal legislation enabled by the Canada Labour Code. Fall protection is covered in OHS Part 12 - Protection Equipment and Other Preventive Measures. OHS has also created the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (OHS Act), which is a document that outlines workers' rights and responsibilities, including the right to stop work that is deemed hazardous or unsafe. OHS also lists the penalties and enforcement techniques to be used if these guidelines are not followed.
To supplement the overarching regulations created by OHS, individual provinces and territories often set their own regulations (in accordance with federal bodies) specific to their needs. Before implementing a fall protection certification program, ensure that you are familiar with the regulations specific to your province or territory.
The World Health Organization (WHO) establishes a provisional global standard for allowable levels of arsenic in drinking water worldwide. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) establishes the regulations concerning arsenic in food.
