CHEMICAL HAZARDS AND TOXIC SUBSTANCES

These courses present an overview of chemical hazards and toxic substances that are commonly used in the construction, general, and maritime/shipyard industries. They will cover the responsibilities of employers and employees. They will cover health hazards from chemicals and toxic substances, as well as hazard controls and federal regulations that protect employees from these hazards.

Chemical hazards and toxic substances present a range of health and physical hazards. OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard requires employers to meet four key provisions for hazardous substances: proper labeling, safety data sheets, employee training, and a written hazard communication program. The obligations of the HCS apply to all general industry, shipyard/maritime, and construction workplaces that use or store harmful or toxic substances.

These online training courses are designed to help train employees in the recognition and avoidance of unsafe working conditions, including hazard awareness, exposure control, implementing safety and health programs, and completing required training.
