Roadway Work Zones Safety

Online Training Certification Course

29 CFR 1926.203

From the highest rated and most trusted online training company - since 2008.

This worker safety in roadway work zones online training course details the regulations, responsibilities, and best practices for worker safety. Course topics include work zone hazards, safety devices, internal traffic control plans, and elements of work zone roadway flagger safety training.

Roadway work zones are some of the busiest and most hazardous work environments, putting workers in close proximity to traffic. Both road user and worker safety in roadway workzones is enhanced by applying temporary traffic control techniques, such as signs, tapers, barriers, and safety flaggers.

This course is for:
This traffic worker safety course is designed for anyone who participates in work activities on or near roadways. Anyone within the activity area of a roadway work zone faces safety risks, including workers on foot and those operating vehicles and equipment. This safety training may help prevent serious injury in the workplace and save lives.

This online certification course meets the requirements set forth by OSHA for worker safety in roadway work zones.

Case Study: In the early morning hours of August 7, 2017, the driver of a Honda Civic lost control of his car and drove into a roadway work zone on a major interstate near Atlanta, Georgia. The vehicle hit several workers. One worker was pronounced dead at the scene, and another was evacuated by air to a hospital. He later died. An ambulance carried two other workers to a hospital, where they were treated and later released. The driver of the Honda had to be freed from his crushed vehicle and was also flown to a hospital. Authorities suspect that the driver may have been impaired, possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol. OSHA fined the employer over $11,000 for serious workplace safety violations related to roadway work zone signage.

Key Takeaway: Accidents of this type can - and clearly do - happen. This reality requires the full commitment by any employer putting roadway workers in harm's way to promote and enforce the highest standards of safety. Not all accidents are avoidable, but roadway work zone hazards, both in the traffic space and the activity space must be identified and prevented, and workers must be protected in every way possible.
