Governing Regulations
The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) is the primary federal law in the United States governing the generation, transportation, treatment, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste and used oil. RCRA ensures that hazardous waste is managed in a way that protects human health and the environment throughout its lifecycle.
Key governing regulations include:
- 40 CFR Part 260–268 – Hazardous Waste Management System regulations, covering definitions, classifications, and standards for generators, transporters, and treatment/storage/disposal facilities (TSDFs)
- 40 CFR Part 273 – Standards for Universal Waste Management, including batteries, pesticides, and mercury-containing equipment
- 40 CFR Part 279 – Standards for the management of used oil
This 8-hour refresher course is designed for personnel who have previously completed RCRA training and need to meet the annual retraining requirement for hazardous waste personnel under EPA regulations.
